ProFACT Proteomics, Inc. Receives New Jersey Entrepreneurial Partnering Fund Award

North Brunswick, N.J. (June 16, 2006) - ProFACT Proteomics, Inc. received an Entrepreneurial Partnering Fund award from the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology on May 19, 2006. The funds will, in part, support a $516,000 Research and Development program with Principal Investigator Kiran Madura, PhD and his laboratory at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

“We are grateful to the Commission for this opportunity to accelerate the development of new molecular profiling methods which, we foresee will enhance the characterization of multiple forms of Cancer”, said CEO David Golub. The project is jointly overseen by Dr. Madura and ProFACT Chief Scientific Officer Swapan Roy, PhD who said “this program will allow us to demonstrate our unique profiling capabilities for important and challenging cancer proteomic applications”

The project will amplify Dr. Madura’s research involving the Ubiquitin/Proteasome Pathway, which degrades and eliminates unwanted or misformed proteins and is thus essential to cell function. By incorporating SeraFILE™, ProFACT’s differential subfractionation technology, key elements of this pathway may be revealed. “Our goal is to generate new cancer profiles, and ultimately, new diagnostics and therapeutics down the road” said Dr. Madura.

Dr. Madura is the Director of the Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, an affiliate of UMDNJ, and the inventor of proprietary technology for Ubiquitin and Proteasome bioassays. His laboratory is pursuing five research projects under two NIH grants. Dr. Madura is author of 31 peer-reviewed publications and is a member of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and the Board of Scientific advisors for the Carcinogenesis Foundation. Recently, he joined the Scientific Advisory Board of ProFACT Proteomics, Inc.

The Entrepreneurial Partnering Fund provides funding to New Jersey technology companies for proof-of-concept research and development and ancillary activities necessary to commercialization of the identified technology.
