(April 28, 2005)
- The New Jersey Economic Development Authority
has hired Mark E. Cowin of Atco to help manage its six million square
feet of real estate assets and oversee leasing activities at two of the
premier technology facilities in the state, the EDA's Technology Centre
of New Jersey and Waterfront Technology Center at Camden. Cowin has more
than 25 years of experience in the real estate field, including responsibility
for acquisitions and asset and construction management.
"From
helping to revitalize urban centers to creating and managing first-class
buildings to meet the needs of emerging and established high-technology
and biotetechnology companies, the EDA's real estate development activities
offer a perfect complement to our financing efforts for generating economic
expansion and stimulating the creation of jobs in New Jersey," said
EDA Chief Executive Officer Caren S. Franzini. "Mark Cowin's extensive
experience as a real estate professional will be a major asset to the
EDA as we move forward with our state-of-the-art technology facilities
and other real estate projects."
The Technology
Centre of New Jersey is a 50-acre state-of-the-art complex along Route
1's research corridor in North Brunswick that features more than 400,000
square feet of prime space for growing high-technology and life sciences
businesses. The five-story, 100,000-square-foot Waterfront Technology
Center has been designed to accommodate existing businesses and startups
in the biosciences, microelectronics, advanced materials, information
technology and other high-tech and life sciences fields. It is scheduled
to be completed and ready for occupancy later this summer.
Both facilities
are located within Innovation Zones, technology neighborhoods that encompass
state universities, research hospitals and related businesses, which
have been created by the state in the New Brunswick area, Camden and
Newark to spur collaborative research efforts and the more rapid transfer
of discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace.
Cowin
comes to the EDA from the Susquehanna International Group (SIG), LLP,
in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., where he had served as director of real estate
and facilities since October 2001. There he was responsible for administering
the day-to-day operations over more than one million square feet of
commercial office property in the United States, Ireland and Australia.
Prior
to joining SIG, he spent more than five years as project director, information
technology and facility manager for Alliance Data Systems in Voorhees,
and nearly eight years as property manager/site manager for Leggat McCall
Properties Management, also in Voorhees.
Cowin
is a graduate of Camden County College, the Camden County College Advanced
Technical Education Program, and the RCA/General Electric MIP Program.
